STORY

Hi, welcome! I am Katja, owner of StudioVlek. I make accessories for you and your home with special patterns. All patterns are made by experimenting with fruit and vegetable waste on fabrics and paper. It started with the idea of ​​the food stain and the often annoying print they leave on your clothes, for example. I play with this idea of ​​stains, the colors and shapes that fruits and vegetables can leave behind. What I like about it is that if you take a quick look at it, you see a flower pattern, for example, but if you look closely and zoom in, you can still see the material as the leftovers and seeds. Digitally i make patterns that can be printed on fabrics and paper. In my studio in Wijk bij Duurstede, the Netherlands, I make simple yet joyfull products from these fabrics. I want to create inspiring prints & products that you will love forever and will add joy to your daily life.

Sustainability is very important to me. This is reflected in the choice of fabric, such as organic GOTS certified cotton or fabric made from recycled PET bottles. The used inks to print the patterns on the textiles are also GOTS certified. I use leftover fabrics as much as possible by making scrunchies, toiletry bags and labels. The products are all fairly made in small quantities.

I studied Product Design at the Willem de Kooning academy in Rotterdam. Studio Vlek is the result of my graduation project (2021). I love experimenting with prints, colors and materials. I hope to expand my collection of stain prints with new designs and products.
